Canada’s High Commissioner to India, Chris Cooter, met with Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to talk about enhancing trade, investment, and innovation partnerships between Canada and Telangana. The discussions focused on collaboration opportunities in infrastructure and urban development projects in Telangana, such as the Musi River Development Project and Hyderabad Metro Rail expansion. The Canadian High Commissioner invited a delegation led by the chief minister to visit Canada.
The meeting highlighted recent developments showcasing the growing Telangana-Canada relationship, including Firan Technology Group’s decision to establish a manufacturing facility and CIBC’s opening of a Global Capability Centre in Hyderabad. Additionally, CPP Investments made a significant investment in a strategic partnership with Hyderabad-based CtrlS Datacenters. Chief Minister Reddy shared Telangana’s success stories in sectors like IT, Life Sciences, Defence, and Aerospace, emphasizing Hyderabad’s appeal to Fortune-500 companies for setting up Global Capability Centres.
Chief Minister Reddy expressed the state government’s commitment to revitalizing the Musi River and creating an alternative economy along the riverfront. He sought Canada’s assistance in Telangana’s solarization efforts and green economy promotion. The Chief Minister also discussed plans to establish Hyderabad as a global knowledge hub, mentioning the interest of top global universities in setting up campuses in the city. He proposed the idea of Canadian universities forming a multi-university campus in Hyderabad.
Welcoming increased Canadian involvement in the state, Chief Minister Reddy invited Canadian companies, investors, and institutions to participate in Telangana’s Global Investors Summit in December. High Commissioner Cooter praised Telangana’s forward-thinking approach to job creation and development, acknowledging the state’s vast talent pool. He offered support for the state government’s initiatives and invited the Chief Minister to visit Canada to explore further collaboration opportunities. A Canadian trade delegation is set to visit Telangana in the upcoming months for discussions on energy, urbanization, defence, and aerospace.
