The Lahore police are still searching for a Canadian national, Hamza Ahmad Khan, who disappeared on February 19. Khan, a doctoral researcher, went missing after leaving his residence in Lahore, as per a First Information Report (FIR) filed by his friend Yousuf Rasheed. Rasheed reported that Khan, who arrived in Pakistan on February 13 for his PhD thesis work, booked a cab through a ride-hailing service and left his house between 1 am – 2 am on February 19 but has not been seen since.
Khan’s brother, Awais Ahmad Khan, mentioned that their family contacted the ride-hailing service, which claimed the ride was cancelled midway. He explained that Khan dropped off a girl at her house in the cab but did not return home. Despite having CCTV footage of the incident, the cab company did not provide details to the family, promising to cooperate with law enforcement if contacted. The family, dissatisfied with the police response, plans to involve the Canadian embassy and potentially file a court plea to locate Hamza Ahmad Khan.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Muhammad Naveed confirmed that the police have not yet located Hamza Ahmad Khan. Naveed expressed the police’s ongoing struggle in determining Khan’s whereabouts, despite initial information gathered from the complainant and the ride-hailing service.
