Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney dismissed US President Donald Trump’s assertion that Canada is reliant on the United States for its survival. Carney, speaking in Quebec City, underscored Ottawa’s independence and responded to Trump’s remarks following his return from Switzerland without a meeting with the US leader. Trump’s statement at the World Economic Forum in Davos suggesting that “Canada lives because of the United States” was refuted by Carney.
Trump also restated his desire to acquire Greenland, a move that could strain relations with key allies, while his leadership of the US has led to a strained relationship with Europe. Trump, at Davos, characterized America as a global economic powerhouse and criticized parts of Europe as unrecognizable. He emphasized the US’s economic significance globally and expressed concern over Europe’s direction, highlighting his ancestral ties to the continent.
