The police apprehended Abdul Khaleque, a candidate scheduled for the Kolkata Police Sub-Inspector recruitment exam, who had arranged for someone else to take the test on his behalf. Khaleque, hailing from Murshidabad district, was arrested on Saturday and presented in court, where he was remanded to police custody until January 8.
Abdul Khaleque had cleared two stages of the recruitment process but failed to appear for the written test himself. Instead, a proxy candidate named Lakhai Ghosh, also from Murshidabad, took the exam in his place. Both individuals have been taken into custody by the police.
Lakhai Ghosh, who admitted to taking the exam for Khaleque, disclosed that they had been studying together for the exams. Ghosh, who had also passed other examinations, claimed financial constraints led him to accept money from Khaleque to substitute for him in the test.
The court ordered Khaleque’s detention until January 8 following his appearance in court. The authorities are investigating whether Ghosh had also participated in the previous exam rounds on behalf of Khaleque. The police aim to gather more details through Khaleque’s interrogation.
