Captain Vyshak Vijaykumar showcased an impressive fast-bowling performance, propelling Mysuru Warriors into the knockout stage of the Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20 tournament with a convincing six-wicket win over Shivamogga Yodhas at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The Warriors, opting to bowl first, restricted the Yodhas to a mere 66 runs in 10.5 overs before successfully chasing down the target in just 10 overs to secure a spot in the final four.
Mysuru Warriors secured the fourth and final knockout berth with nine points from 10 matches. Despite the loss, Shivamogga Yodhas claimed the second spot with 10 points, while Bengaluru Blasters topped the table with 18 points. The Warriors’ victory not only secured their place in the playoffs but also eliminated Gulbarga Mystics from contention, ensuring a thrilling finish to the group stage.
The foundation for the Warriors’ triumph was laid by Arbind Kumar Rai, who picked up crucial wickets with his disciplined swing bowling. Rai’s impressive figures of 3-28 rattled the Yodhas, reducing them to 57 for five in the seventh over. Captain Vyshak Vijaykumar then delivered a remarkable spell, conceding only one run and claiming three wickets to finish with extraordinary figures of 3 for 1.
Left-arm spinner Madhav Bajaj and Ritesh Bhatkal also made significant contributions with the ball, further tightening the grip on the Yodhas. Despite entering the match on a winning streak, the Yodhas suffered a batting collapse, managing only 66 runs – the lowest total in the tournament. In the chase, Mysuru Warriors faced minimal trouble, reaching the target comfortably with 60 balls to spare, with L.R. Chethan top-scoring with 26 runs.
