A cargo vessel was hit by an unidentified object near Oman’s coast, damaging its bridge but causing no injuries, as per the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO). The incident occurred about 7.5 nautical miles southeast of Dahit in Oman. The vessel’s crew confirmed no harm to personnel or the environment from the impact.
Authorities are looking into the attack, with the UKMTO urging caution to ships passing through the area and advising them to report any suspicious behavior. Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy emphasized that vessels must follow specific routes authorized by Iranian authorities when navigating the Strait of Hormuz.
The IRGC Navy’s statement, published on the official news outlet Sepah News, warned against using unauthorized routes, labeling them as dangerous and strictly prohibited. It stressed that vessels should adhere to the designated paths to ensure safe passage through the strait.
The recent incident comes amid increased traffic in and around the Strait of Hormuz, with efforts to enhance safety measures. The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and Oman have introduced a safety corridor to aid stranded vessels and seafarers in the region. Additionally, Iran and Oman have agreed to establish a joint working group to oversee navigation in the strait, emphasizing the importance of upholding international maritime laws.
