The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) disclosed on Friday the apprehension of an Assistant Engineer associated with the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in a bribery case operation. The accused, identified as Liyakat Javed Sheikh from Shopian, allegedly demanded an illicit payment from a resident to expedite compensation release for house damage during a PMGSY road project.
The initial demand of Rs 50,000 was reportedly negotiated down to Rs 30,000 during the CBI’s verification process. Subsequently, the CBI initiated a case and conducted a trap operation, catching the official red-handed accepting the reduced amount from the complainant in the presence of witnesses.
Searches are currently underway at locations associated with the accused as part of the ongoing investigation. The CBI emphasized that the probe is ongoing to uncover all facets of the case, with further legal actions to be based on investigation outcomes. The allegations are under scrutiny and will follow due legal procedures.
