The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended a Delhi Jal Board (DJB) employee and a private individual in connection with a bribery incident concerning the resolution of an outstanding water bill. The arrested individuals are Vinod Kumar, a peon-cum-assistant meter reader at Zone-VI, Seelampur, and Nitin Kumar, a private citizen.
A complaint prompted the CBI to file a case on February 8, alleging that the DJB employee sought a bribe of Rs 12,000 from the complainant to rectify and waive the pending water bill of the complainant’s residence. Of the total sum demanded, the accused had already taken Rs 5,500 on February 3 and requested the remaining Rs 6,500 for settling the bill.
In response to the complaint, the CBI set a trap on February 9. During the operation, both the DJB employee and the private individual were caught red-handed while soliciting and receiving the remaining bribe amount of Rs 6,500 from the complainant. Subsequently, both suspects were promptly arrested.
The involvement of the private individual in facilitating the alleged bribery transaction is also under investigation by the CBI. The agency is conducting further inquiries to establish the complete chain of events and to determine if any other parties were implicated in the incident.
