The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) apprehended a security inspector from Mahanadi Coalfields in Odisha for soliciting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a subordinate seeking changes in duty assignments. Banshi Ram, the Security Inspector at Orient Area, MCL, Brajaraja Nagar, Jharsuguda, was taken into custody after a case was filed based on the co-worker’s complaint. Allegedly, Banshi Ram asked for the bribe to assign Sunday duties to the complainant on a rotational basis.
The CBI set up a trap and caught Banshi Ram red-handed while accepting the Rs 5,000 bribe from the complainant. The accused is slated to appear in a Special CBI court on the same day for further proceedings. In a separate incident, the CBI had previously detained two primary suspects linked to an investigation into a human trafficking ring that enticed Indian job seekers into cyber slavery in Myanmar and Cambodia.
One of the arrested individuals facilitated logistics for Indian nationals trafficked to Myanmar via Thailand, while the other managed a network of sub-agents in India for scam compound operators. Investigations revealed that the second accused operated from an office near the Thailand–Myanmar border within a scam compound, receiving payments in cryptocurrency from the illegal establishment operators.
