The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended an Assistant Engineer (AE) and a Beldar from MCD’s Shahdara Zone in Delhi for soliciting and receiving an illicit payment of Rs. 2 lakh from a complainant. The CBI initiated the case on December 22, 2025, against the accused Beldar.

The arrested individuals, identified as Assistant Engineer Ashish Siwach and Beldar Mahesh Kumar, both stationed at MCD’s Shahdara Zone, were accused of demanding Rs. 2 lakhs from the complainant to expedite the Closure Report concerning a building linked to the complainant and booked by the accused AE. The agency disclosed this information in a press release.

In a bid to catch the culprits in the act, the CBI set up a sting operation on December 22, 2025, and caught the Assistant Engineer and Beldar red-handed while demanding and receiving Rs. 2 lakhs from the complainant. The arrested accused individuals are currently in custody, and the investigation is ongoing.

This development follows the recent arrest of Superintendent Ankit Aggarwal from CGST Audit-I, Mumbai, who was apprehended for accepting a bribe of Rs. 5 lakh from a complainant. The CBI registered the case on December 22, 2025, based on a complaint from a Private Company Director, alleging the Superintendent’s demand for illegal gratification.
