The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) apprehended a senior section engineer from Northeast Frontier Railway in Silchar, Assam, on charges of accepting a bribe. The engineer was caught red-handed receiving Rs 20,000 from a complainant. The accused allegedly demanded a percentage of the pending bill amount for bill clearance.
A case has been filed against the government official, who was scheduled to appear in court on Sunday. The CBI revealed that the engineer sought a bribe to process and clear bills, including one worth around Rs 20 lakh. The accused was arrested after being caught accepting the illegal gratification.
The CBI plans to present the arrested engineer before a Guwahati court for custody. Simultaneously, searches are being conducted at the engineer’s residence. In a separate incident, the CBI recently arrested an Assistant Divisional Engineer and a Trackman from Northern Railways in Uttar Pradesh for accepting illegal gratification.
