The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) apprehended a Sub-Registrar, a Reader from the Revenue Department, and two private individuals for accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a complainant. The accused were identified as Sub-Registrar Pankaj Kumar Yadav, Reader Ravinder Dabas, and private persons Ashish alias Nitin and Sunil, as per the CBI statement.
A case was filed by the CBI against the accused and others involved. Allegations suggested that the public servants, in collaboration with private individuals, demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 in exchange for a sale deed/registry for the complainant. Additionally, they threatened to raise objections and mark the documents with a red seal if the bribe was not paid.
On January 7, the CBI conducted a sting operation and caught one of the private individuals red-handed while soliciting and receiving the bribe amount. All the accused have been taken into custody by the CBI.
This incident follows the suspension of a Sub-Registrar and Tehsildar by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta due to corruption allegations in the Revenue Department. The Chief Minister emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and stressed the importance of honesty, sensitivity, and accountability in public officials.
