The Chief Commercial Inspector (CCI) of South Eastern Railway in Ranchi, Jharkhand, was apprehended by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday for his involvement in a bribery case. Himanshu Shekhar, the accused, allegedly accepted a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a complainant. The CBI initiated the case on March 25, focusing on the CCI’s demand for 10% of pending bills, totaling around Rs 8.7 lakh, in exchange for their clearance.
Searches are being conducted at the accused’s office and residential premises following the arrest. The CBI caught Shekhar red-handed while accepting the negotiated bribe of Rs 50,000 as the first installment. Recent incidents of bribery in Jharkhand have led to increased vigilance and enforcement actions by anti-corruption agencies.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) recently arrested Pritam Acharya and a middleman for accepting a bribe in a land compensation case. Niranjan Kumar, a Block Supply Officer, was also apprehended for taking a bribe, emphasizing the crackdown on corruption in government services in the state.
