The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended three individuals, including two public servants from Northern Railways and a private individual, concerning a bribery incident related to railway tender awards. Among those detained are a Chief Materials Manager and a Senior Clerk stationed at the Northern Railways headquarters, alongside a representative from a private firm. The CBI has filed a case against a total of six suspects, which includes a Deputy Chief Materials Manager, the private company, two of its representatives, as well as unidentified public servants and private individuals.
The investigation by the CBI was initiated following allegations that public servants at Northern Railways were in collusion with the private company’s representatives, engaging in corrupt activities. The agency stated that these individuals were providing undue advantages to the private company in exchange for illicit payments, breaching the established procedures and regulations governing public procurement.
During a sting operation conducted by the CBI, an amount of Rs 1 lakh in bribe money, transferred by the private company’s representative to the Chief Materials Manager, was seized. Subsequently, the two public servants and the individual offering the bribe were taken into custody. In addition, the CBI carried out searches at various locations in Delhi, Ghaziabad, Bulandshahr, and Kanpur, recovering several incriminating documents and digital devices that are anticipated to serve as crucial evidence in the case.
The investigation into the matter is ongoing, with the CBI scrutinizing the involvement of other accused persons and the extent of the alleged irregularities in the tendering process. Further arrests have not been ruled out as the inquiry progresses.
