The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) apprehended a Foreman Incharge of Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) in Nagpur for taking a bribe of Rs 40,000 for a mutual transfer involving a Mining Sirdar and an Overman. Deepak Jaiswal, stationed at Naigaon Open Cast Mine, was caught following a complaint by a senior clerk, Kapil Laxman Nagrale.
The CBI initiated action on January 9 after a complaint alleged that Jaiswal had demanded Rs 50,000, Rs 25,000 for each employee, to facilitate the transfer. The accused had sought the bribe from Mining Sirdar Dinesh Gedam at Gondegaon Open Cast Mine and Overman Arvind Kudphe at Gokul Open Cast Mind. After negotiations, Jaiswal agreed to accept Rs 40,000, Rs 20,000 for each employee.
Subsequently, a trap was set by the CBI on Saturday, leading to Jaiswal’s arrest while demanding and receiving the bribe from Nagrale. CBI Superintendent of Police, Rishikesh Sonawane, confirmed the authenticity of the allegations and approved the filing of an FIR against Jaiswal under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
