The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a case against Reliance Communications Ltd (RCom), Anil Ambani, and others, including unknown public servants, over accusations of causing a wrongful loss of Rs 3,750 crore to Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India. The case stems from a complaint by LIC, alleging conspiracy, cheating, misappropriation, and violations under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Allegations suggest that LIC was misled into investing in Non Convertible Debentures (NCDs) worth Rs 4,500 crore based on false assurances regarding RCom’s financial status and the security provided to LIC during the investment.
A forensic audit report by BDO India LLP, dated October 15, 2020, highlighted financial irregularities by RCom and its management, including fund misappropriation, routing funds through subsidiaries, and overstating security, leading to the current investigation.
