The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has imposed a penalty of Rs 27.38 crore on Intel Corporation for its India-specific warranty policy related to boxed microprocessors. The penalty, set at 8% of Intel’s average relevant turnover, was enforced due to the policy being in place for eight years.
In light of mitigating factors and the discontinuation of the policy from April 1, 2024, the Commission reduced the penalty amount to Rs 27.38 crore. Additionally, Intel has been instructed to publicize the withdrawal of the India-specific warranty policy and provide a compliance report.
Under Section 27 of the Competition Act, 2002, the CCI issued the order citing a violation of Section 4 of the Act. The case was initiated based on a complaint filed by Matrix Info Systems Private Limited under Section 19 (1)(a) of the Act.
