Celebrities and their family members in West Bengal have been summoned by the Election Commission to attend Special Intensive Revision (SIR) hearings. Actor and Trinamool Congress MP Dev, along with three family members, have received hearing notices for the SIR. The date and time for their appearance at the hearing center are yet to be disclosed.
No official response has been given by Dev or his family following the receipt of the SIR hearing notice. The ruling Trinamool Congress has criticized the notice to Dev, labeling it as harassment. Dev, a Tollywood superstar and three-time MP from Ghatal, was born in West Midnapore district.
Apart from Dev, actor Anirban Bhattacharya from the Bengali film industry has also received a hearing notice for the SIR. Allegations against Anirban include failure to provide documents from 2002 during the enumeration form filling. Additionally, actor couples Kaushik Banerjee and Laboni Sarkar from Tollygunge in Kolkata were also summoned for the SIR hearings.
Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami has been summoned for a SIR hearing as well. Shami, a long-time voter in the Jadavpur Assembly constituency in south Kolkata, faces complications related to his enumeration form. Due to cricket commitments, Shami was unable to attend the hearing scheduled for Monday but will do so later. His brother has also been summoned for the hearing.
