The Central Water Commission (CWC) is set to organize a one-day workshop on flood forecasting services and guidelines for flood management in New Delhi. The workshop aims to enhance coordination between the Centre and states in flood forecasting and preparedness, promoting the effective use of CWC’s services by state governments and central organizations. It will provide a platform for flood-prone states to share their initiatives and explore collaboration opportunities with CWC.
The workshop will focus on improving flood preparedness, enhancing the quality of flood management proposals, and strengthening institutional coordination to align with disaster resilience and climate-responsive water management goals. Technical sessions will cover CWC’s flood forecasting capabilities, including short-range and seven-day advisory forecasts, reservoir operation support, and new initiatives like AI/ML applications and flash flood forecasting. State governments will also present their experiences in flood forecasting and coordination with CWC.
Additionally, the workshop will delve into guidelines for preparing detailed project reports (DPRs) for flood management and anti-erosion works, emphasizing project quality and timely appraisal. Feedback from states will be crucial in refining these guidelines. The event will culminate with a session led by CWC Chairman Anupam Prasad, highlighting key insights and future directions.
