The Centre has appointed four advocates as judges in three High Courts based on the recommendations of the Supreme Court Collegium. Union Minister of State for Law and Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal, announced on social media platform X that advocates Ritesh Kumar and Praveen Kumar have been appointed as judges of the Patna High Court. Additionally, advocate Jai Krishna Upadhyay has been appointed as a judge of the Allahabad High Court, and advocate Siddhartha Sah as an additional judge of the Uttarakhand High Court.
These appointments were made following recommendations from the Supreme Court Collegium in previous meetings. The apex court Collegium, led by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna in February 2025, approved the proposal for the appointment of advocates, including Ritesh Kumar, as judges of the Patna High Court. Similarly, advocate Jai Krishna Upadhyay was recommended for elevation to the Allahabad High Court in September 2025 by the Supreme Court Collegium.
Advocate Siddhartha Sah’s elevation to the Uttarakhand High Court was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium in October 2023, citing his professional standing and integrity. The Collegium highlighted his good reputation at the Bar and the absence of any adverse information against his integrity. The Collegium emphasized that government observations should not hinder recommendations when no adverse information is found against the candidate’s integrity.
