The Centre has approved the appointment of three judicial officers as Additional Judges of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. Union Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal announced the decision, stating that Sunitha Gandham, Alapati Giridhar, and Purushottam Kumar Chintalapudi have been appointed to the High Court.
These appointments were made following the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium, which had approved the proposal on May 4. The Collegium named the three judicial officers for the positions in the Andhra Pradesh High Court.
The process for appointing High Court judges involves initiation by the Chief Justice of the respective High Court. Recommendations from the Chief Minister, if any, are forwarded to the Chief Justice for consideration. The final appointment is made after consultations by the Chief Justice of India with the two senior-most judges of the Supreme Court.
Once the President signs the warrant of appointment, the Secretary of the Department of Justice notifies the Chief Justice, with subsequent publication in the Gazette of India.
