A Centre of Excellence for Floriculture is set to be established in Ujjain in preparation for the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela in 2028. The facility will be developed on a 19-acre plot, with a formal proposal already submitted to the Central government. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced this initiative during a departmental review and also approved a “Mango Festival” in Bhopal to showcase the state’s diverse horticultural produce.
These efforts aim to equip local farmers with top-notch training and resources, empowering them to compete globally. Chief Minister Yadav stressed the importance of enhancing agriculture-based income by expanding the horticulture sector comprehensively. He highlighted the revenue potential of such crops on small landholdings, crucial for rural prosperity.
To bolster this sector, the state is focusing on building strong supply chains and branding strategies to facilitate the global market entry of local products. The Chief Minister directed the promotion of organic farming practices and the use of natural fertilizers among farmers. Madhya Pradesh currently leads in spice production nationwide and ranks third in flower and vegetable production, as well as fourth in fruit production.
The state government aims to promote Makhana cultivation, targeting 85 hectares across 14 districts. This initiative seeks to diversify the state’s agricultural output and ensure a prosperous future for farmers.
