Centre releases over Rs 1,133 crore to strengthen local bodies in three states

The Centre has allocated more than Rs 1,133 crore to enhance Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and Rural Local Bodies (RLBs) in Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, and Telangana. In Madhya Pradesh, Rs 652.55 crore has been disbursed as the second instalment of Untied Grants for FY 2024–25, benefiting various Panchayats in the state.

These funds will aid 52 District Panchayats, 312 Block Panchayats, and 23,001 Gram Panchayats in Madhya Pradesh. Additionally, Rs 77 lakh, representing the withheld portion of the first instalment, has been released to additional Block Panchayats and Gram Panchayats.

In Punjab, the Centre has released Rs 222 crore as the first instalment of Untied Grants for FY 2025–26. These funds will benefit numerous Gram Panchayats, Block Panchayats, and District Panchayats across the state. For Telangana, Rs 256.0295 crore has been allocated as the first instalment of Untied Grants for FY 2024–25, benefiting a significant number of Gram Panchayats.

Moreover, Rs 233.18 lakh, the withheld portion of the second instalment of Untied Grants for FY 2023–24, has been released to additional Gram Panchayats and Block Panchayats in Telangana. The grants are intended for specific needs of the local bodies, excluding salaries and establishment costs.
