The Chandigarh Citizens Foundation (CCF) has initiated ‘Project Sewa’ to cater to the needs of senior citizens in Tricity. This project aims to address emotional, mental, social, and physical requirements while providing support during medical emergencies. The CCF has started this unique program in Sector 27 D, Chandigarh, in collaboration with Resident Welfare Associations and other partners.
Elderly citizens aged 70 and above, whether living alone or with family, are the primary focus of ‘Project Sewa’. The initiative aims to combat loneliness, boost community involvement, and encourage participation in various activities like gardening, temple visits, and park walks. These engagements are designed to enhance the overall well-being of seniors and align with CCF’s vision of creating a supportive neighborhood where elders feel valued and cared for.
As part of the project, around 30 senior citizens in Sector 27 D received visits from RWA officials and volunteers who provided guidance on community engagement. The CCF team, including medical professionals, assessed the needs of elderly residents and facilitated visits by volunteers and family members to alleviate loneliness among those living alone. Additionally, the CCF organizes diverse “activity sessions” for seniors, encompassing outdoor and indoor activities to foster social connections and enjoyable moments.
‘Project Sewa’ emphasizes that all events and initiatives are conducted under the CCF’s umbrella, without external involvement. Notably, the CCF, established a year ago in Tricity, aims to create a more sustainable and inclusive community in Chandigarh. The foundation was inaugurated by General V.P. Malik, the CCF president, along with members of the Governing Council comprising distinguished individuals from various fields.
