Chaos unfolded in the Mandiri Kath Pul area in Patna as a joint team of the Narcotics Department and Patna Police faced a violent attack while conducting a raid against illicit drugs. The mob, including locals and alleged criminals, tried to free detained suspects, leading the police to fire warning shots to control the situation. Specific intelligence had alerted the Narcotics Department about large-scale drug trafficking in the area, prompting the raid near Sinha Kothi where two suspects were apprehended.
As the police tried to move the suspects, a group of anti-social elements and residents surrounded the vehicles, hurling stones in an attempt to release the accused. In response to the escalating aggression, the police took defensive measures and fired shots into the air, dispersing the crowd. The main accused were safely secured and taken to the Buddha Colony Police Station under heavy police presence to avert further unrest.
DSP (Law and Order) Krishna Murari Singh confirmed the attack on the police team during the ongoing raid, emphasizing that the firing was done in self-defence to quell the mob. He warned of strict action against those involved in the attack or aiding the traffickers, with authorities reviewing video footage to identify suspects. The incident has highlighted concerns about the boldness of drug traffickers and the diminishing fear of law enforcement, particularly in an area known for narcotics activities.
Interrogations of the detained suspects are in progress as the locality remains tense but relatively calm following the disturbance.
