The Fast Track Court in Guwahati proceeded with the hearing related to the death investigation of renowned Assamese singer Zubeen Garg. Seven accused individuals had charges framed against them by Fast Track Judge Sharmila Bhuyan after arguments from both sides were considered.
Public prosecutor Ziaur Kamar, addressing the media post-hearing, mentioned that the court, content with the presented arguments, decided to frame charges against all seven accused under various legal sections. This action signifies the formal initiation of the trial process in this case.
The trial is set to commence on June 8, starting with witness examination and evidence recording. The prosecution has been directed to provide a witness list to the accused before the trial begins. It is anticipated that a substantial number of witnesses will be examined during the proceedings.
The case revolves around the demise of Zubeen Garg, who passed away on September 19 last year while swimming near Lazarus Island in Singapore. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by Assam Police’s CID conducted an extensive probe and filed a chargesheet in December, naming seven accused individuals, including Mahanta.
