The Greater Chennai Corporation has taken disciplinary action by suspending six officials, including four senior officers, due to allegations of bribery, tender irregularities, and financial misconduct. Corporation Commissioner G.S. Sameeran initiated the suspensions following complaints of corruption, misuse of public funds, and violations of official procedures. Departmental proceedings have been started against all six officials, with criminal cases recommended against four of them.

The Corporation’s actions were prompted by complaints accusing some officials of accepting bribes, misusing public funds, and engaging in irregularities in tender processing and financial transactions. The allegations are currently under departmental inquiries, with criminal investigations expected to proceed where sufficient evidence exists. The Corporation emphasized that these measures aim to uphold transparency and integrity in public administration.

Among those suspended is the Zonal Health Officer for Manali and Madhavaram, who faced allegations related to the procurement of medical equipment worth approximately Rs nine lakh. The Corporation raised concerns about forged invoices submitted during the procurement, casting doubt on the authenticity of the documents and fund handling. Investigations are ongoing to determine if financial losses occurred.

The probe is also looking into whether the alleged irregularities involved a broader network of officials or contractors. Records related to procurement, tender approvals, and financial transactions are being examined as part of the investigation. The Corporation’s recent actions align with its efforts to combat corruption and enhance financial accountability within its departments.

Officials stated that disciplinary proceedings and criminal investigations will run concurrently, with further action planned if additional evidence surfaces during the inquiry. The Corporation reiterated its zero-tolerance stance towards corruption and financial misconduct, emphasizing the importance of transparency, accountability, and strict enforcement of service rules in maintaining public trust in civic administration.
