Chennai Super Kings (CSK) announced that Ayush Mhatre, their top-order batter, will miss the rest of IPL 2026 due to a left hamstring injury sustained in a recent match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The franchise stated that Mhatre will need 6-12 weeks of rehabilitation for his injury. Following CSK’s defeat, batting coach Michael Hussey expressed concern about Mhatre’s hamstring tear, emphasizing the impact of his absence on the team.
Mhatre, who came in as a substitute for Gurjapneet Singh, impressed with a quickfire 30 off 12 balls before injuring his hamstring while attempting a second run. Despite the injury, he continued to bat but eventually lost his wicket. Hussey highlighted the uncertainty regarding the severity of Mhatre’s injury, acknowledging the significant loss to the team due to his good form and potential. Mhatre joins Khaleel Ahmed and Nathan Ellis as the third CSK player ruled out this season.
CSK’s defeat against SRH pushed them down to seventh place in the points table, with four points from six matches. The team is set to face the Mumbai Indians (MI) in their upcoming match on Thursday.
