Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Jamie Overton expressed his disappointment after being sidelined from the remaining matches of IPL 2026 due to a right thigh injury. Overton, who had to return to the UK for scans, conveyed his eagerness to rejoin the team in the next season.
The absence of Overton adds to CSK’s injury concerns, compounding the team’s existing issues with key players like Nathan Ellis, Khaleel Ahmed, Ayush Mhatre, and Ramakrishna Ghosh already ruled out. Additionally, MS Dhoni is sidelined with a calf injury.
Overton, a significant contributor to CSK this season, has been instrumental with his seam-bowling skills, having taken 14 wickets at an average of 17.78. His performance, including a Player of the Match award for his 3-36 against LSG, has been crucial for the team.
Known for his lower-order batting prowess, Overton’s departure poses a challenge for CSK’s bowling lineup, necessitating quick adjustments by the team management to maintain their balance. Despite the setbacks, CSK remains in contention for the playoffs, currently holding the fifth position with 12 points from 11 matches.
CSK, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, will strive to enhance their position in the standings as they face LSG at the BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. A victory in the upcoming match could propel them past Punjab Kings into the fourth spot.
