Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have shared a positive update on Khaleel Ahmed, their left-arm pacer, confirming that he has undergone a successful surgery after being sidelined from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 due to a quadricep injury.
Khaleel Ahmed, a 28-year-old fast bowler, was forced out of the tournament on April 16 following a right quadricep injury sustained during a match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Initially thought to be cramps, Khaleel’s injury turned out to be a tear in the quadriceps, a significant setback for a fast bowler, necessitating surgery due to the severity of the damage and recovery time required.
CSK faces a challenge with Khaleel’s absence, as he played a crucial role in their pace attack, further straining their already depleted bowling unit as the IPL 2026 season reaches a critical juncture.
The team is also coping with the absence of captain MS Dhoni, recovering from a calf injury, while dealing with the addition of overseas pacer Spencer Johnson, who is making a comeback from a back stress fracture.
CSK has managed to recover from a shaky start and currently stands mid-table, buoyed by a commanding 103-run victory over the Mumbai Indians (MI). Led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, the team has won three of their last four matches, with notable contributions from Sanju Samson and Akeal Hosein, gearing up to face the Gujarat Titans (GT) on April 26.
