Chennai Super Kings’ captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, has been penalized for a slow over-rate during their match against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This is Gaikwad’s second offense this season, resulting in a fine of Rs 24 lakhs for him. Additionally, the entire playing XI, along with the Impact Player, received reprimands for the same.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) stated that Gaikwad’s team committed their second over-rate offense of the season, leading to the significant fine. The rest of the Playing XI members, including the Impact Player, will face fines of either Rs six lakhs or 25% of their match fees, whichever is lower.
Following their defeat to Gujarat Titans in the last league stage fixture, Chennai Super Kings have been officially eliminated from IPL 2026. This marks the third consecutive season where they have failed to finish in the top-four after winning their fifth title in 2023.
Gujarat Titans showcased a dominant performance, defeating CSK by 89 runs, strengthening their position for a top-two finish in the league. In pursuit of a crucial victory to secure two chances at the final through Qualifier 1, Gujarat Titans displayed an exceptional all-round performance, scoring 229/4 before restricting CSK to 140.
Reflecting on the season, CSK’s skipper expressed, “Well, tough season to start, especially the hat-trick of losses. And then after that, once we found that momentum, obviously we found guys playing at the right spot, the right combination, everything started working. And then, a couple of injuries again and again. Didn’t really help much, especially missing out Jamie and, another allrounder in Ramakrishna Ghosh, kind of unsettled our playing 12. Not many people actually buy the fact that we are a young team, we are in a transition phase and, not a lot of players who are experienced enough, especially in the toughest competition.”
