Chennai Super Kings’ Urvil Patel achieved a record-equalling 13-ball half-century against Lucknow Super Giants, helping his team secure a five-wicket victory in the IPL 2026 match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Patel’s impressive knock of 65 off 23 balls, featuring eight sixes and two fours, guided CSK to their successful chase of 204 runs, propelling them to the fifth spot on the points table.
The electrified stands at Chepauk echoed with chants of “Urvil! Urvil!” as Patel, amidst his stellar performance, made a touching gesture by revealing a note from his pocket dedicated to his father in Gujarati. His innings not only set a new milestone but also enabled CSK to achieve a chase above 180 for the first time since 2019.
After the match, Urvil Patel shared his approach, stating, “There was nothing in my mind, but I just wanted to bat according to the situation and the ball. The coach instructed me to maintain a stable base and then hit, which I followed. Ruturaj Gaikwad mentioned the low wicket conditions, advising me to be prepared.”
Player of the Match Jamie Overton, who took 3-36, emphasized the importance of discipline in his performance, particularly in causing LSG’s innings to slow down. Overton credited his success to his work with CSK bowling coach Eric Simons, highlighting the adjustments made to his action to suit Indian conditions and the focus on hitting the top of the stumps consistently.
Overton stressed the significance of focusing on controllables in his mindset, mentioning, “As long as you can control what you can and that’s hitting the top of stumps and minimizing errors, then the rest is out of my control. It’s about keeping it as simple as possible.”
