Chennai Police Commissioner Abin Dinesh Modak announced that 22,000 police officers will oversee the vote counting process in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections on May 4. Security measures at all counting centers will include a four-tier setup to ensure safety.
Following the voting on April 23, Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) from 16 constituencies under Chennai Metropolitan Police jurisdiction were securely transported under armed police guard. The EVMs are currently stored at three designated counting centers in the city: Queen Mary’s College, Loyola College, and Anna University.
To maintain strict security, the EVMs are under constant surveillance and protection at all times. The Chennai Police have implemented elaborate security arrangements at the counting centers, with senior officers supervising the measures to uphold protocols.
Security personnel are on duty round-the-clock in shifts at the centers to ensure continuous monitoring. Access to the counting premises is restricted, allowing only authorized personnel with valid identification. In addition to the three centers, security officers will be stationed at key locations in the Chennai Metropolitan area to uphold law and order during the counting process.
