The Monsoon Session of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly faced turmoil when the Opposition Congress protested the ‘Nakti bulldozer action’. The issue pertained to the demolition of 77 houses in Nakti village near Raipur on June 29, leading to a heated debate in the House. Minister Tank Ram Verma defended the demolition, citing legal procedures and relocation arrangements made for the affected residents.
The Congress criticized the government, accusing it of human rights violations and endorsing a ‘bulldozer culture’. Despite demands for a detailed discussion through an adjournment motion, the Speaker rejected it, sparking protests by Congress members. Additionally, the Opposition highlighted tiger poaching in the Indravati Tiger Reserve, questioning political influence and demanding accountability from the government.
In response, Forest Minister Kedar Kashyap assured stringent action against those involved in the poaching incident. Furthermore, a no-confidence motion initiated by the Opposition is scheduled for discussion on the session’s final day, July 17. The Opposition also raised concerns during Question Hour regarding the tragic accident at the Vedanta plant in Sakti, where 25 individuals lost their lives, seeking government explanations.
