Chhattisgarh is gearing up to conduct mass marriage ceremonies simultaneously in all districts through the Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana on Friday. More than 2,300 couples from various religions and communities, including Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, and vulnerable tribal groups, will tie the knot following their customs. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai highlighted that the event symbolizes equality, dignity, and unity, aiming to foster social harmony and ensure welfare outreach to the most marginalized.
The program, recognized globally, had a notable event on February 10, 2026, where 6,412 couples got married during a state-level mass marriage ceremony in Raipur. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai personally blessed 1,316 couples, while others virtually participated from their districts. The upcoming ceremonies are expected to enhance Chhattisgarh’s reputation as a state that combines tradition with progressive welfare initiatives, portraying marriage as a representation of social justice, equality, and collective pride.
The Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana, initiated in 2006, offers Rs 35,000 financial aid to each newlywed couple along with essential household items and marriage ceremony arrangements. Targeting families below the poverty line, the scheme’s eligibility is tied to ration cards issued under the Chief Minister Food Scheme, supporting widows, orphans, and destitute women to ensure inclusivity and empowerment. The Department of Women and Child Development has made comprehensive arrangements, including venue management, food, health services, and security measures, to provide a dignified setting for couples and their families.
