Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar met Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan to discuss electoral roll revisions and his new role as Chair of International IDEA. Kumar recently took over the Chairship of International IDEA during a visit to Sweden, where he engaged in discussions on democracy with various stakeholders.
During his visit, Kumar unveiled a plaque at the International IDEA Headquarters, met with the Committee on the Constitution at the Swedish Parliament, and held talks with Dr. Kevin Casas-Zamora, the Secretary-General of International IDEA. He officially assumed the Chairship of International IDEA at a meeting in Stockholm, Sweden, and will lead all council meetings in 2026.
International IDEA, founded in 1995, focuses on enhancing democratic institutions globally. The Election Commission of India sees Kumar’s Chairship as a testament to its credibility and innovation in election management. India, a founding member of International IDEA, aims to share its electoral expertise with other Election Management Bodies worldwide.
