Describing voting as crucial for nation-building, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar emphasized the importance of every 18-year-old becoming an elector. He highlighted the significant voter turnout in the recent Assembly elections, stating that the Election Commission of India stands by the voters as per constitutional provisions.
During the Assembly elections, West Bengal saw a record-breaking voter turnout of 93.71%, involving over 6.38 crore voters. Similarly, Assam witnessed a high polling percentage of 86.33%, with more than 2.16 crore electors exercising their right to vote. In Kerala, the polling percentage reached 79.53%, with 2.16 crore electors participating in the electoral process.
Tamil Nadu recorded a voter turnout of 86.03%, where 4.93 crore electors cast their votes. Puducherry also saw active participation, with a polling percentage of 91.19% and 8,66,932 electors engaging in the voting process. The Election Commission of India recently initiated a Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls across various states and Union Territories to enhance accuracy and transparency.
The Commission has finalized the Phase-3 schedule of the Special Intensive Revision, ensuring comprehensive coverage across the country, except for Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. The upcoming phases will be announced later, considering ongoing census operations and weather challenges in certain regions.
