Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, accompanied by his family, recently visited the famous Kailash Mahadev Temple in Agra to offer prayers following traditional customs. Stressing the significance of maintaining clean electoral rolls, Kumar highlighted their role in ensuring transparent and fair elections. He urged voters to acquire their voter ID cards and actively engage in the democratic process for transparent voting.
After successfully overseeing elections in five states, Kumar and his wife sought blessings in their hometown, Agra, from their parents before visiting the temple. The Election Commission of India conducted Assembly elections in four states and one union territory, with polling dates ranging from April 9 to April 29. Kumar defended the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, stating that it led to highly accurate voter lists globally.
CEC Gyanesh Kumar emphasized that the revision process aimed to include all eligible voters while eliminating ineligible entries, resulting in one of the most precise electoral databases worldwide. The Supreme Court recently upheld the validity of the SIR exercise, affirming its contribution to free and fair elections. Kumar highlighted the extensive supervision involved in the revision process, ensuring transparency and oversight with the participation of booth-level agents and political party representatives.
