Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary revealed that the Ministry of Railways has given the green light for constructing a third railway line between Kiul and Jhajha in Bihar, costing approximately Rs 961.71 crore. This initiative is expected to bolster Bihar’s railway infrastructure, enhance transportation, and spur industrial and economic progress in the state. Choudhary expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for their support in sanctioning the project.
The railway expansion project, as per the Chief Minister, aligns with the development agenda under the NDA’s “double-engine government” model in Bihar. The official approval was communicated to the Bihar government by Ashwini Vaishnaw. The project, spanning 53.92 kilometers, is set to receive funding for civil works, electrification, and signaling and telecommunication infrastructure under the umbrella scheme for railway network capacity enhancement during 2025–26.
The Kiul–Jhajha section, a vital rail corridor linking Patna with Kolkata, is a key route in the country’s railway network. The addition of a third line is anticipated to alleviate congestion, enhance train operations, and bolster freight and passenger connectivity in eastern India. Furthermore, the project is poised to boost trade, logistics, and industrial growth in Bihar by enhancing transportation infrastructure across the region. The Bihar government’s focus on attracting industrial investments remains active.
