Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis urged for a united effort to create a drug-free environment in Maharashtra. He emphasized the need to eliminate illegal drug activities and integrate anti-drug education in school curriculums for students in classes 7 to 10. Fadnavis highlighted the importance of various measures including curriculum changes, campus policies, de-addiction networks, and legal actions to combat drug abuse.
Fadnavis outlined plans to establish de-addiction centers in collaboration with NGOs, the Medical Education Department, and other relevant authorities. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation will establish multidisciplinary centers in Mumbai, and government hospitals will allocate beds for de-addiction treatments. Special courts will be set up to expedite trials related to drug offenses under the NDPS Act.
Efforts will be intensified to track down drug peddlers, dismantle supply chains, and enhance surveillance in high-risk areas. A reward system will be introduced for individuals providing information leading to drug seizures. Additionally, police officers excelling in anti-drug operations will be recognized with salary advances and awards. The government aims to strengthen the fight against drug syndicates through stringent laws and operational enhancements.
