Chief Minister Siddaramaiah emphasized the importance of integrating slum dwellers into society by distributing a large number of houses. At an event in Hubballi, he handed over 42,345 houses built by the Housing Board and 46,000 houses by the Slum Development Board to eligible beneficiaries. Siddaramaiah highlighted the government’s efforts to uplift the poor through housing schemes.
Recalling past achievements, Siddaramaiah mentioned that during his previous term, the government constructed 14,58,000 houses, marking a significant housing revolution. In the current tenure, the government has already distributed 36,789 houses in the first phase and is now distributing an additional 45,000 houses in the second phase. He affirmed the government’s commitment to fulfilling promises and criticized others for failing to deliver on their pledges.
Siddaramaiah also addressed the disparity in funding between the state and central governments for housing projects. He pointed out that the state government contributes significantly more funds compared to the Centre under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Despite allegations of an empty exchequer, he highlighted the substantial investments made by the Congress government in social welfare and infrastructure, including allocations for farmers’ subsidies and various welfare schemes.
