A tragic incident in Indira Nagar, Wagle Estate, Thane, saw a six-year-old child fatally electrocuted while playing near his home. The exposed electric wires, suspected to be linked to the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited, caused the fatal accident. Outraged residents blamed the electricity department for negligence, leading to protests in the area.
Protests escalated as angry locals gathered outside Srinagar Police Station demanding accountability for the child’s death. Allegations surfaced that despite prior complaints about the hazardous wiring, no preventive measures were taken by the authorities. Public representative Eknath Bhoir joined the residents in seeking strict action against those responsible for the tragedy.
The incident reignited concerns over electrical safety in densely populated urban areas, especially in informal settlements where exposed wiring and illegal connections pose serious risks. Previous incidents of electrocution, including the recent death of an MBA student in Pune and a six-year-old boy in Mulund Colony, underscore the pressing need for improved safety measures and stricter enforcement against such hazards.
