Around 15 children became ill at an Anganwadi center in West Bengal when a dead lizard was discovered in the food served on Thursday. The incident occurred at the Nagendrapur Uttarpara ICDS center in Raidighi, South 24 Parganas district. All affected children were taken to Raidighi Rural Hospital for treatment.

During lunch at the ICDS center, a dead lizard was found on a child’s plate, leading to complaints of stomach pain and vomiting among the children who had eaten the contaminated food. Parents rushed to the center upon hearing the news, causing panic in the area. The number of children taken to Raidighi Rural Hospital gradually increased.

Raidighi Trinamool Congress MLA Aloke Jaldata, a doctor, arrived at the hospital promptly upon learning of the incident. He checked on the children’s health and supervised their treatment. A team of medical officers was dispatched to assess the situation as per the MLA’s instructions.

Officials are monitoring the area for any further illnesses and have prepared ambulances for emergencies. The district administration has been tasked with investigating how the dead lizard ended up in the food. Parents protested the incident, demanding the removal of the cook responsible for the meal preparation.

The affected children are currently under observation at the hospital, with reports indicating their stable condition.
