Children’s Research University in Gandhinagar is organizing the State-level ‘Under-11 Athletics Meet Season 4.0’ in Surat from January 9 to 12, 2026, aiming to engage young talent in sports. Over 4,500 child athletes from Gujarat have registered for the event, which focuses on nurturing sporting abilities scientifically.

The meet, dubbed as a ‘Mini Khel Mahakumbh’, is not just a competition but an effort to discover and support hidden sporting talent among children. Winners of the 11 athletic events will share prize money totaling Rs 22 lakh, with opportunities for direct admission to the District Level Sports School (DLSS) by the Sports Authority of Gujarat.

Scheduled at Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Surat, the competition will include various events for boys and girls aged Under-9 and Under-11. The activities range from races to jumps and throws, emphasizing the importance of sports in both physical and mental development of children.

Sports play a vital role in shaping a child’s character and mental resilience, apart from physical fitness. By integrating a scientific approach to sports training, children can enhance their overall well-being and readiness for the future. Gujarat has emerged as a prominent state in sports development, boasting modern facilities like the Narendra Modi Stadium and a strong network of sports infrastructure.

The state’s focus on nurturing young athletes through initiatives like the Sardar Patel Sports Enclave and District Level Sports Schools has led to successful hosting of national and international events. Gujarat’s commitment to sports excellence is evident through continuous investments in sports facilities, talent identification programs, and athlete-centric development.
