India’s doubles badminton player, Chirag Shetty, fondly remembers the moment when the Indian anthem “Jai Ho” played after his victory at the Asian Games 2023, where he and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy secured the gold medal and became World No. 1. Despite achieving the top ranking, Chirag’s primary focus was on winning the tournament.
During the tournament, Chirag was battling illness, and it was after the semifinal that his coach informed him of their new World No. 1 status. Chirag expressed that winning the gold medal alongside becoming World No. 1 was a significant highlight in his career.
After their victory, the arena played the Indian song “Jai Ho,” leading to a celebratory dance by Chirag and his partner. Chirag emphasized the special feeling of hearing a song from his country while in a foreign land. He also shared the challenges he faced due to illness during the Asian Games.
Chirag, who had dreamt of becoming World No. 1 since childhood, highlighted the importance of focusing on the journey rather than fixating on outcomes. He stressed the value of enjoying the process and effort put in, rather than solely aiming for titles.
