Choreographer Raju Khan, son of the late Saroj Khan, shared the difficulties faced while shooting the song “Ghanan Ghanan” for the movie “Lagaan” in 2001. The song required extensive preparation within tight timelines during the early days of the film’s shoot.
The first shot of the film was filmed on the same day Raju was introduced to the massive set and the entire cast. It took about eight days to shoot the song due to challenges faced, especially in creating the illusion of clouds and overcast weather.
Raju mentioned that the second half of the song was predominantly filmed at sunset, with limited time each day to capture the shots without shadows. The filming process was described as quite challenging due to these specific requirements.
The epic period sports drama “Lagaan,” directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, is set in 1893 during British colonial rule in India. The film revolves around a village’s cricket match against the British to avoid oppressive taxes during a drought.
