West Bengal’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers conducted a raid at Harish Chatterjee Street in south Kolkata’s Kalighat area, this time targeting Mamata Banerjee’s sister-in-law, who is also the aunt of Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee. The raid, which began at 2 p.m., lasted for about an hour, with the CID team leaving the premises before 3 p.m. Mamata Banerjee’s residence is situated approximately 250 meters away from her relative’s house.
The CID’s visit was reportedly linked to comments made by Abhishek Banerjee during the Assembly election campaign, where he mentioned playing DJ after the vote counting on May 4, sparking controversy. Abhishek Banerjee’s aunt, identified as Reena Gayen alias Nanti, resides at 29/D Harish Chatterjee Street. Her daughter, Aditi Gayen, who is associated with Abhishek Banerjee’s social media team, has been seen accompanying him at various party events and managing his social media activities.
Notably, Aditi Gayen was also photographed with Argentine footballer Lionel Messi at the Yuva Bharati Sports Complex. Previously, the CID had visited Abhishek Banerjee’s residence multiple times in connection with various cases, including the signature mismatch issue during the state Assembly elections. Abhishek Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress MP from Diamond Harbour, has been questioned by CID officials on several occasions, both regarding the signature mismatch case and the provocative remarks made during the campaign.
In a recent incident, personnel from Salbani police station searched Kalighat in the middle of the night for Abhishek Banerjee’s executive assistant, Sumit Roy, breaking into a house on Harish Chatterjee Street. However, Roy was not found at the location. This latest CID raid targeted another relative of Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee on the same street.
