Armed with a court order, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in West Bengal has issued a notice to Abhishek Banerjee, Trinamool Congress general secretary and Lok Sabha member, to provide his voice samples. The notice is in connection to allegations of inciting violence and threatening Union Home Minister Amit Shah before the recent Assembly polls.
The CID official visited Abhishek’s residence in South Kolkata to serve the notice, which mandates the collection of voice samples on June 30 in the presence of a judicial magistrate and forensic experts. This action follows a court order based on video evidence of Banerjee’s purported remarks at a pre-election rally.
Abhishek Banerjee had previously faced questioning at the CID headquarters regarding the same case. Additionally, he is also being investigated by the CID for discrepancies in the signatures of Trinamool legislators on a resolution concerning opposition bench appointments in the Assembly.
