A team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the West Bengal Police encountered obstruction while attempting to conduct raid and search operations at a Trinamool Congress party office near the residence of former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Kalighat, Kolkata. The CID officials were impeded by Subhasish Chakraborty, a former Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member, who engaged in a heated argument with them, citing the absence of Mamata Banerjee and her nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, in Kolkata as a reason for not permitting entry.
Chakraborty persisted in arguing with the CID team even after being informed that they were there to carry out their duties as per legal provisions, regardless of his approval. The CID officials clarified to Chakraborty that they were obligated to proceed with their tasks. Despite the ongoing confrontation, the CID officers remained at the location, awaiting instructions from their superiors, while Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel also arrived at the scene.
Meanwhile, Abhishek Banerjee was expected to appear at the CID’s office at Bhabani Bhavan in South Kolkata for questioning regarding a case involving mismatched signatures of some Trinamool Congress legislators in a resolution related to key positions in the West Bengal Assembly reserved for the Opposition bench. This marked the third consecutive notice served to Abhishek Banerjee by the CID in connection with the issue. Both Abhishek Banerjee and Mamata Banerjee are currently reported to be in New Delhi, having attended a significant meeting of the Opposition India National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc on Monday.
