Pharma company Cipla Limited saw a 39.2% year-on-year decrease in its consolidated net profit for the first quarter of FY27, amounting to Rs 789.05 crore. This drop was from Rs 1,297.91 crore in the same quarter of the previous financial year. The company’s revenue from operations increased by 2.3% to Rs 7,119.28 crore.
Cipla’s MD and Global CEO, Achin Gupta, expressed satisfaction with the growth in their branded prescription business and trade generics. He highlighted that the North American market is expected to see continued growth due to an upcoming product pipeline. Additionally, the South Africa private business is growing faster than the market.
The company clarified that a change in the presentation of certain marketing and promotional expenses affected the year-on-year revenue comparison. These expenses are now deducted from revenue from operations, impacting the revenue figures. Despite this change, Cipla’s underlying revenue growth for the year-ago quarter was around 4%.
Total expenses for the quarter surged by 14.7% to Rs 6,248.25 crore, while profit before tax and share of profit or loss from associates declined by 38.9% to Rs 1,081.93 crore compared to the same quarter last fiscal year.
